Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) program

St Maroun’s College utilises some of the latest cloud based technologies, integrated into the classroom to enhance and expand the learning experience for all of our students. Working in conjunction with these new technologies is a Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) laptop program, for students from Year 4 – 12 in 2018 and beyond.

Our BYODD program provides students with access to expanded, global resources and content, as well as giving students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and approach to creative problem solving. We believe that, through communication and collaboration, students will reap many rewards such as increased student engagement and increased long-term academic performance, which will encourage them to become life-long learners.

The BYODD Program at St Maroun’s College commenced on Day 1 of Term 1 2016, and continues into 2018 and beyond. All new enrolments must ensure that they have purchased an appropriate device.

How do we purchase our BYODD device?

To purchase a BYODD device at special education pricing with 3-year warranty, parents are encouraged to visit our online order portal and follow the easy and secure steps. The order portal web address is:

Purchasing your BYODD device elsewhere

If parents wish to purchase a BYODD device from an alternate supplier, the device MUST comply with our Hardware Checklist. This is to ensure the device is compatible with our computer network and will meet the day to day expectations placed upon it by our BYODD program. Please print the Hardware Checklist and take it to your computer supplier, making sure that your BYODD device matches each item listed.

How do we obtain the recommended BYODD software?

Once you have purchased your BYODD device, or had your own device approved, you will need to install the list of recommended BYODD software applications that our IT department has put together. Please review the Software Requirements noted in the checklist below and download the suggested software applications. As the program matures and expands, there may be further software downloads and purchases required at a later date.

Applying to use a BYODD device you already own

If you wish to use a BYODD device that you currently own, please complete the online application form linked below. The College IT Manager will review all applications to ensure that the nominated device will function correctly on the college computer network, and perform adequately in the classroom. As devices can vary in performance and reliability, not all applications will be approved. Generally, your device MUST be less than 2 years old, support 5GHz wireless, have over 6 hours of battery run time, and be covered by a suitable warranty.
