Information technology and the resources it provides have become powerful learning tools for the classroom.

At St Maroun’s College we integrate Information and communication technologies into all areas of study. From Kindergarten to Year 12, technology is used as a tool to aid learning and emphasis is placed on the development of skills in using, evaluating and acknowledging information collected through technology. Students have access to technology in classrooms and the school libraries.

St Maroun’s College has engaged with Scope IT Education to provide 3D printing and design and coding courses to all students in Kindergarten to Year 6. The lessons teach students the fundamentals behind the technology that is shaping the future and engages them with 21st century learning.

The students of Year 4 were very excited to begin 2016, with the start of the Bring Your Own Designated Device (‘BYODD’) initiative. Students have been using their laptops across a range of Key Learning Areas for a range of different purposes.

Here are some quotes from our students about their thoughts regarding the BYODD initiative:

“I am looking forward to using the laptops in the classroom and learning new things” – Amirah

“I want to learn how to do better research on the internet” – Isabel

“I think it will make learning more fun” – Aron

” I think the BYODD program was a good idea because it is a good opportunity for students to learn how to use computers and programs better. It also gets students our age ready for high school and helps us learn different subjects in a more fun way. Thank you St Maroun’s College for the BYODD program”. – Michael

“I am really enjoying the BYODD program. I really believe that it is such a great opportunity to make learning more interesting especially in this technological world. I love using my laptop because it is so much fun to type and click the keys and the mouse. In my opinion, it is more fun than writing by hand. Some of my favourite programs are: Study ladder, Reading Eggs, Mathletics and I also like to research too. It is SO MUCH FUN!!!!!” – Maria
